Aerial Gunning Program
Natchitoches SWCD was the first conservation district in Louisiana to partner with USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) to implement aerial gunning for feral swine control. Aerial gunning has been conducted in Natchitoches Parish by the Natchitoches SWCD since 2014, where approximately 5,222 feral swine have been removed with 522 removed in 2021. The District averaged approximately 47,000 acres per year enrolled in the program. The district usually signs up participants for aerial gunning in December and gunning begins January or February.
